Position Overview: The System Administrator will support the maintenance and administration of various compute, storage and virtualization components of clients’ environment for a variety of federal and commercial Information Technology (IT) projects. Reporting directly to the Senior Infrastructure Engineer, the System Administrator will have familiarity with VMware, Cisco UCS, Hyperflex, Nutanix, Linux and Windows. The incumbent must have the ability to follow through on all project tasks and interface with all levels of client teams.

Location: McLean, VA or Bethesda, MD (Full-time, Onsite)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization.
  • Regularly installs computer components and software, performs constant system upgrades, manages virtual servers, and integrates automation processes.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting software and application errors by running diagnostics and system analysis, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  • Performs or delegates as needed regular backup operations and implements appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Leads desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions.
  • Documents and maintains network devices/components serial numbers and support cases ID for reference and lesson learned purposes.
  • Responsible for capacity and storage planning.
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure.
  • Nurture and cultivate enduring client connections via diverse electronic mediums, fostering ongoing rapport and engagement.
  • Present solutions to technology issues and problems in user-friendly language.
  • Provide clear communication with internal teams to ensure resolution of all outstanding issues.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for internal knowledge base.
  • Actively work to identify and solve repeat issues, improving on existing services or processes where necessary.
  • Be an active champion of KNZ’s mission, vision and collaborative culture.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of network administration or system administration experience.
  • Experience in systems administration, configuration and maintenance in medium to large environments.
  • Manufacturer certifications such as Linux, VMware, VEEAM, Nutanix, Cisco a plus.
  • Experience with configuring Hyperflex preferred.
  • Experience with VMWare virtualization environments such as ESXi, vCenter, vROPS, Log Insight, Lifecycle Manager.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience with the following systems:
    o Cisco MDS and Storage e.g., HP and Pure
    o Zerto engineering & administration
    o Windows Systems management and patching
    o Linux System management and patching
  • Working knowledge of technological change management, testing requirements, techniques, and tools to ensure high availability of platforms.
  • Prior experience working in a consulting environment a plus.
  • High proficiency in Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences including executives, business stakeholders, and IT teams.
  • Ability to work during non-business hours as needed.
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis, as required to support assigned projects/initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details with the ability to multi-task required.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned that may extend beyond the scope of the primary job description.
